SH Raza Universe Square Silk Stole

Sayed Haider Raza (1922-2016), born in Madhya Pradesh, was among the most famed Indian modern artists of the 20th century and a founding member of the Progressive Artists' Group. He completed his Bachelor's at Sir Jamsetjee Jeejeebhoy School of Art in Mumbai in 1947. In 1950, he won a scholarship to study at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Raza's work is categorised by an abstract style that references Indian Philosophy and the symbol of Bindu (dot).

Raza's works have been exhibited around the world, including at the Royal Academy, London; the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi; and the São Paulo Biennale. He received various awards, including the Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan, and was also conferred with the highest French civilian honour, the Commandeur de la Légion d’honneur (Legion of Honor).
