Red or dead is a British brand and was launched in the 1980’s by Mr & Mrs Wayne Hemmingway as an affordable designer label with ‘non-elitist’ principles. At the time, designer fashion was all about snobbery and spending huge amounts of money on ‘big name’ labels. Red or Dead offered quite the opposite: affordable, innovative and fashion design.

The company's name (Red or Dead) comes from Wayne's Red Indian ancestors. One Saturday morning in 1982, Wayne and Gerardine Hemingway opened a stall on Camden Market, London to sell items from their wardrobes. Before they knew it their one stall had expanded into sixteen stalls of second hand clothes, purchased from all over the world, and the Red or Dead brand was born
